New Videos and Other MMH Curriculum Updates for Social Emotional Health, Nutrition and Physical Activity

Curriculum Updates & Releases - Elementary K - 6 - Grades 9 - 12

The Michigan Model for Health™ curriculum has been updated for Social Emotional Health, Nutrition, and Physical Activity health subject topics.  As part of our continuous improvement process, the MMH program regularly releases updates to ensure content is both relevant and up to date for teachers and students.  This recent update includes new videos to replace older media, new teacher reference materials on eating disorders, and edited videos for nutrition and physical activity.

Below is a detailed list of changes by health unit topic and grade level:

  • Grade 4, Lesson 6 – Removed the dated video I Can Do it: Taking Responsibility and revised the lesson plan to incorporate the stories from the video for teaching the skill of decision making.
  • Grade 6, Lesson 5 – New video Anger Management for Kids (YouTube) replaces the video Dealing with Anger.  The lesson plan was also rewritten to align with the new video.

  • Grade 1, Lesson 3 – New Video Fit Kids Move 60 Minutes a Day (YouTube) replaces the CD Exercise Everyday.
  • Grade 6, Lesson 2 – Edited the video My Plate and You: Learning About Nutrition to remove outdated nutrition information.
  • Grade 6, Lesson 4 – Replaced teacher reference brochures on eating disorders with the National Eating Disorders Association Toolkit for Educators, a more comprehensive and up to date teacher reference guide.  Also removed the video Say Know to Diets and revised lesson content and activities to reflect best practice in healthy weight management.
  • High School Grades 9-12, Lesson 5 – Replaced the video Testing Your Fast Food Knowledge with a more up to date video, 7 Surprisingly Healthy Fast Foods You Can Eat (YouTube video).  The new video takes a more positive approach for making healthy choices at fast food restaurants.​​​​

Teachers with MMH digital curriculum access to the above grade levels will see these curriculum updates reflected in the online lessons plans. For teachers using the print version of the MMH curriculum, print addenda are available for the “2019 Updated with Opioid Misuse Prevention Enhancement” copyright version.  In addition, a revised Video Access List and Links document to streamed videos is also available for all MMH teachers to use.   Teachers and educators can refer to the Contact Us section on this page for further assistance.

The Michigan Model for HealthTM is a nationally recognized, research-based comprehensive and sequential Pre-K through 12th grade health education curriculum. The MMH curriculum aims to give school-aged children and youth the knowledge and skills needed to practice and maintain healthy behaviors and lifestyles. It provides age-appropriate lessons addressing the most serious health challenges facing school children and youth.
